BICKFORD PLACE

The city of Berlin approached us to reimagine the facade of an abandoned building on Main Street in preparation for new businesses to use. The city felt the scale of the building was out of proportion to the public community, and wanted more visual interest for its downtown aesthetic. For our design, we suggested a more modern approach using tubular steel configured in an ornamental framework that floats just in front of the building. This provided an elegant and airy look, while still adhering to a classical vocabulary of proportions and details.  This project also included a pocket park with a suspended canopy with seating for people to gather in all types of weather.
